Thank you for taking the time to read my letter.

I am a woman with Cerebral Palsy who uses a power wheelchair and lives on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. I am currently looking to meet qualified Home Health Aides (HHAs) or Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) who are already employed by VNS and have an active VNS employee ID number.

At this time, I am primarily looking for someone to work weekends from approximately 8:30 AM to 2:30 PM, as well as someone who may be available as an occasional weekday fill-in if needed. I have had my weekday aide for many years, and I deeply appreciate that relationship. However, I feel it is time to explore additional options for weekends and backup coverage so that I have dependable support when needed.

Please note: Meeting with me does not guarantee employment. Even if we both feel we would be a great match, all assignments must be approved through VNS supervisors and follow company procedures. I want to be completely transparent about that from the beginning.

I would simply like the opportunity to meet prospective caregivers in a public place, such as a local park or café, to have a conversation and get to know one another before requesting any changes through the agency. I have found that having a chance to meet beforehand helps ensure a better fit for everyone involved.

About Me

I consider myself an easygoing, thoughtful, and respectful person. Like everyone else, I have good days and difficult days, but I believe in mature, honest communication and working through misunderstandings with kindness and respect. I value reliability, professionalism, and people who are comfortable having open conversations if concerns ever arise.

I enjoy healthy food, listening to 1980s music, spending time in parks, grocery shopping, and watching crime mysteries. I also enjoy helping people whenever I can by sharing information and community resources.

I like to keep my home clean and organized. While it can occasionally become a little cluttered, I am always working toward keeping it straightened out and appreciate someone who enjoys helping maintain a comfortable, tidy home.

English is my primary language, although I also understand some French because it was spoken by members of my family.

About My Care

My care needs are relatively light, especially on weekends. I am semi-ambulatory and able to transfer, so there is very little, if any, heavy lifting required.

Some of the assistance I appreciate includes:

● Laundry (about once per week)

● Sweeping and mopping floors

● Washing dishes

● Light meal preparation

● Assistance putting on socks and shoes

● Help with my hair

● Occasional errands such as grocery shopping or accompanying me to the park

I generally manage my own bathroom care independently.

My Dog

One of the most important parts of my life is my senior German Shepherd. She is elderly and has severe arthritis affecting her hips and spine, making it difficult for her to walk. She does bark when people arrive, but she is not aggressive and is not a danger to anyone.

She has been my constant companion through many difficult times, and since I have very little family support, she truly means the world to me. Because of that, I am looking for someone who genuinely likes dogs and will treat her with patience, kindness, and respect. Being comfortable around dogs is an absolute requirement.
